Gunners to complete double signing with Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi undergoing medicals today

Arsenal are set to complete the double signing of Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi, with the pair undergoing medicals in north London today.

Torreira, the Sampdoria ace, has been expected to join the Gunners for a number of weeks, but the deal had been put on hold until Uruguay’s World Cup campaign was ended.

La Celeste were knocked out at the round-of-16 stage by France, meaning Torreira is now free to complete his switch from Italy to England.

Torreira himself confirmed his transfer to Arsenal in an interview with Realsurebet.

“I would have been very happy to be able to return to Uruguay with my team-mates,” he said, “but this is a fantastic opportunity [to join Arsenal] and I do not want to waste it.”

Guendouzi, who currently plays for Lorient in France, only emerged as a target of Unai Emery’s on Sunday, but he too will undergo a medical with the Gunners today. The 19-year-old is currently training with France’s Under-19 squad ahead of the European Under-19 Championship, which kicks-off later this month.

Both midfielders, Torreira and Guendouzi will have differing roles at the Emirates.  Torreira, 22, will be a key player immediately, while 19-year-old Guendouzi is seen as a prospect for the future.
